History's what defines us – every person, every town, every landscape and many of our everyday items. Be it languages, music, technology or clothing, so much of what we consider as mundane today has its roots in the past. But this past is not always readily accessible for us. A lot has been lost or forgotten, or has been recorded in languages or letters that we don't understand anymore.
The past has become alien and unintelligible to us. But today, knowledge of our history may be more important than ever, since history provides us with orientation, sense and meaning in many areas of life. Understanding history offers new perspectives upon ourselves, our environment, our culture.

Jan H. Sachers MA

A trained bookseller, Jan H. Sachers studied history and literature at the University of Bielefeld, gaining a Master's degree (MA) in 2004 with a comparative study on the veneration of St. John of Nepomuk in Bohemia and Westphalia. During his course of studies he gained experience in the fields of exhibition planning, organisation of educational journeys, as well as print and radio journalism. After working for a private company for 1.5 years he chose self-employment as a free-lance historian in 2006.

Jan H. Sachers's own fields of expertise lie in the cultural and military histories of the Middle Ages and early modern times. To provide clients with a wide range of knowledge and competence he collaborates with professional historians specialised in other areas as well as with trained experts from different backgrounds.

Jan H. Sachers MA is a member of the German medievalists' society "Mediaevistenverband e.V.", a founding member of the interest group for historical everyday life "Interessengemeinschaft Historischer Alltag", and the German representative of the international "Society of Archer-Antiquaries".
